The wide range of activities provided in Kar2ouche Vikings helps students to find out about everyday life as a Viking and learn what was happening at this time.

The tales of life from the point of view of three different Vikings will enable them to explore a variety of themes and develop their skills in History, English and Literacy.

In A Viking Trader's Account, students listen to or read a section of text and answer a series of comprehension questions related it, using their answers to complete the accompanying storyboard. Finally, they write their own account of a Viking trader's expedition to England using the characters, props and sound effects files provided to illustrate their work.

In Interview a Viking Raider, students listen to or read a section of text and use a storyboard to help them plan their interview. Finally, they create a storyboard in which they interview a Viking raider.

In I'll Tell You A Tale, students listen to or read a section of text and write their own version of the events of 793 AD as a poem in the style of Egil's Praise Poem. They can then practise and perform their poem to the rest of the class.

Kar2ouche Victorians provides a wide range of backgrounds, characters, props and sound files that will enable students to engage with this fascinating period of history.

Many of the important and influential characters from the Victorian era are included, such as Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Lord Shaftesbury and Florence Nightingale, as well as characters from other levels of society, including factory workers, chimney sweeps and schoolchildren. The backgrounds include a Victorian schoolroom, interior and exterior views of grand and simple houses, and other sections of a Victorian town.

You can also load your own digital images into Kar2ouche, so that your students can set their storyboards in a Victorian building that they have visited during their study of this period. This aspect of the software is most useful when studying how your local area has changed since Victorian times.

Ten activities provide suggestions for how the software can be used to develop specific history skills, such as understanding chronology, interpreting evidence and synthesising information from a variety of sources. The first eight activities have History as the main focus, while Activities 9 and 10 are oriented more towards developing English skills. They have been written to use with Years 5 and 6.

With Kar2ouche Tudors, students can learn about the life of Henry VIII and his six wives, fill in a dating agency report and write a newspaper article on the breakdown of his marriages. Other activities help students to gain an insight into the differences between the lives of rich and poor children and to learn about clothing and housing in Tudor times.

Using the broad range of characters, backgrounds, props, sound and text, students are encouraged to show their writing skills by writing a letter home about life at court, and planning and writing Sir Francis Drake's captain's log as he sails on the Golden Hind. They can also take a short storyboard tour of the Globe Theatre and find out about Shakespeare's life and work.

The activities and pre-made storyboards provided have been mapped to the Key Stage 2 curriculum for History and English, as well as the National Literacy Strategy. They provide examples of just some of the ways in which the software can be used in the classroom, as teachers can also use it to create their own activities to suit their students' particular needs.

Kar2ouche Romans presents an insight into various aspects of life in Roman Britain, and engages students in a number of cross-curricular activities linked to specific National Literacy Strategy objectives in History, English and Literacy.

Students will be able to develop their understanding of characteristic features of society in Roman settlements and make comparisons between the lifestyles of different people in Roman society. They will be encouraged to identify the different ways in which the past can be represented and recognise similarities and differences between then and now.

Three suggested activities are provided:

Trouble Ahead! - students are introduced to different styles of news reporting related to the Saxon attacks on Sussex, and use the wide range of characters, backgrounds, props, text and audio to produce their own storyboard versions of this information as a television news report
Inside an Amphitheatre - students can find out about Roman amphitheatres and present their findings in the form of a guided tour
Ethelbert's Adventure - students can examine the raids on Roman Britain by Saxons, meet Ethelbert, a Saxon living in Roman Britain, research this period of history further, and write a story about one of Ethelbert's adventures

Kar2ouche Famous People from History provides an extensive range of characters, backgrounds, props and soundfiles that will enable you and your class to engage with a wide period of history from BC 450 to the present day. It is aimed at both Key Stage 1 and 2 students.

The Characters include 19 famous people, such as kings, queens, religious leaders, explorers, inventors and writers, and a selection of modern day characters to enable students to create storyboards of interviews or TV documentaries and to comment from a modern perspective on the lives of those from history.

There are five suggested activities for using the software:

What does Famous mean? - giving reasons why a particular person from history has achieved fame
Florence Nightingale - creating a storyboard of her life
Shakespeare - describing the main events in Shakespeare's life

Kar2ouche Egyptians features two compelling stories to give students an insight into life in ancient Egypt.

Tutankhamun's chief adviser narrates the story of the Pharaoh's life and death. He describes the coronation and life as a young Pharaoh in Egypt, and when Tutankhamun dies suddenly, he explains what happens when a Pharaoh dies, including the rituals of mummification and burial.

The myth of Isis and Osiris enables students to discover the beliefs held by the people of ancient Egypt. It provides an additional framework for a range of lesson plans and activity suggestions.

The characters, backgrounds, props, sound and text that are included allow students to focus on the story in a variety of ways, following activity suggestions that explore a range of Historical, English and Literacy themes:

History - five lesson suggestions requiring pupils to complete tasks such as creating timelines, investigating artefacts, and comparing the lifestyles of the rich and poor in ancient Egypt

Kar2ouche Ancient Greeks enables teachers and students to engage with this period of ancient history, by providing a wide range of characters, backgrounds, props and soundfiles to use in role-play.

Characters include Greek warriors, gods and goddesses, and children and adults from all levels of ancient Greek life. Backgrounds include Greek landscapes, houses, schools, the Acropolis and a recreated Parthenon.
